The battery should be firmly secured in the cradle. Please ensure that the cable clamps fit tightly and properly on the terminals. A loosely held battery vibrates and bounces, causing damage to the container and the plates.
Avoid excessive impact / vibration on the battery. The battery should be installed at the lowest level of the equipment and farthest from the heat source.
The top of the battery must be kept clean and dry. Petroleum jelly or vaseline should be applied to the cable clamps and terminals. Never apply grease. Terminal corrosion, dirt and moisture cause loss of power and makes the battery weak.
Get your UPS / Inverter system, fan belt, electrical wing, dynamo/alternator, regulator and battery open circuit voltage checked regularly. A faulty electrical system will damage the battery.
The alternator charging voltage setting measured across the battery terminals must be maintained at 14.2-14.4 volts for 12 volts system and 28.4-28.8 volts for 24 volts system.
The voltage setting of the Inverter should be such that the upper limit does not exceed 14.2V and the Inverter does not discharge battery below 11.0V.
Vent plugs of maintenance free batteries should be opened with a coin. Do not use a screw driver.
The electrolyte level should be up to the bottom of the filling- hole.
Use only distilled water for topping. Do not top up with acid/electrolyte/ mineral water or tap water.
To get maximum life, it is advised that battery and auto electrical checks be carried out once in every three months.
Avoid chances of deep discharge, immediate recharging recommended after discharge to avoid loss of battery capacity.
Never use new and old batteries in series. Batteries of different capacities and performance should never be used in the same bank. More than 2 parallel strings not recommended.
Check the battery state of charge prior to fitment.
a. Automotive Battery:- Recharge the battery if open circuit voltage across the battery terminals is below 12.25 Volts or specific gravity of electrolyte is below 1.210 corrected to 27°C. Ensure that the level of electrolyte is between “Max” and “Min” lines but close to the “Max” line.
b. Tubular Battery / Flat Plate Inverter Battery:- Recharge the battery if open circuit voltage across the battery terminals is below 12.30 Volts or specific gravity of electrolyte is below 1.225 corrected to 27°C. Ensure the float is always near to green mark.
It is recommended that the charging amps of the UPS / Inverter system should not exceed 7-8% of the rated battery capacity for JC Mass series and 8-10% of the rated battery capacity for JC Tubular
During charging the battery electrolyte temperature should not exceed 40°C to avoid over heating of battery plates.
